I'm a retired academic and taught film studies, media history and policy since the 1970s. I graduated from the University of California Los Angeles film school, returning to Britain to work. I was a member of the Independent Film-makers' Association, the BFI Production Board, Yorkshire Arts Film Panel. I've published in the fields of film history and policy, political economy of the media and broadcasting policy. I see public service broadcasting in the UK as a key resource both for audiences and for producers. I'd like to discuss the politics of austerity as this affects society and culture in general and broadcasting & other forms of media expression in particular - this includes the process of renewing the BBC's Charter which expires on 31 December 2016.
